BodyCross Workout - der besonderen Art

BodyCross Workout - a special kind

"A workout of a special kind," the raspy male voice with a Palatinate accent tells us on the other end of the line. We can hardly imagine what he means by that - "You'll see!" he replies, in response to our astonished question. The conversation ends, and we agree to meet late on a Saturday afternoon in August. A few weeks pass, and the day in question is just around the corner. We meet with Luca at the agreed location amidst a landscape of pastures and fields. The occupants of the car, consisting of the cameraman and four other helping hands, look at each other in bewilderment, as if thinking, "Where does he want to do a special workout here?"

Right on time, a small van lights up behind us, driven by a tanned, bearded man wearing sunglasses. He calls out through the passenger window to us to follow him for a few kilometers, which we do. After another 10 minutes of driving, we stop in front of an old factory site. Luca jumps out of the van and rips open the rear double doors of the van. "And now all of this has to go in there!" he calls out to us with a grin.

It took an hour for us to carry what felt like two tons of exercise equipment into the old building. He was right, it was a workout of a special kind.

Upon arrival, a seemingly endless atmosphere of broken glass, collapsed masonry, and graffiti-covered walls stretches before us. We quickly realize that this is the aforementioned special feature of the workout. But we don't have much time to linger and admire the countless works of art on the walls. This bundle of energy has no time to waste—he has to move! Like a wild animal, he leaps around among the huge piles of rubble and protruding steel girders, building his own playground. We soon feel the energy and power...

"For me, it's a workout of a special kind! A unique atmosphere full of emotions. The dust that swirls around your head when the rope hits the ground, the smell of old rust and iron that sticks to your hands for days afterward—simply unique!"

With a small team, we were privileged to photograph a very special BodyCross workout. The main characters are extreme athlete Luca and an old, abandoned factory site, a true playground for an athlete without limits. They harmonize together like an old married couple, giving each other little but giving each other so much!
